HOW TO USE THIS SITE – A QUICK START GUIDE

The Very Lutheran Project exists to serve you, my friend. We have provided hundreds of audio, visual, and documentary resources for Christians seeking uncompromising, Biblical ministry through the Catacomb Synod house church network. Lutheranism that means it starts here.

But that should not be too complicated a task. Let's make it easy and look over the basics of the site.

SUNDAY SERVICE:

Everything necessary for a Sunday morning can be found on the “Church Resources” tab, right next to this one on the menu (or the drop menu for mobile and tablet users).

  1. If you don't know who should lead the service (or if you want to find out more about the Diaconate and Lay Leader system), download the “DEACONS AND LAY LEADERS” pdf. That will fill you in on the basics of how the Catacomb Synod works.
  2. For Sunday mornings, download (and print if possible) the FREE DIVINE SERVICE 1. This is the liturgy for use in the service. There should be one copy per person in the service. For Deacons, it is also good to download and use the COMMUNION ADDENDUM for Eucharist services at least once a month.
  3. Each Sunday has different readings based on the historic one year lectionary. Look at the resources page for the sermon manuscript, and it will include the Bible lessons for that week Even if the sermon is audio only, we have started including the PDF files with just the lectionary selections so people have the readings at the ready!
  4. Each sermon should be both in PDF and in audio on the site, arranged by date of publication. Beside the sermon manuscripts, there is a sidebar where you can find all the audio selections. When it comes time for preaching on Sunday morning, feel free to play the audio over speakers, or read it out loud to the home church congregation.
  5. After the service has concluded, there are Sunday school files under the sermons in the resources page. However you want to run Sunday school, it is good to use these manuscripts as starting points for conversation, or to help guide the lay leader in what he ought to teach. Remember: Sunday School doesn't have to be on Sunday – whichever day the home church wants it, you are free to do it then! Some congregations in the Catacomb Synod do it on Wednesdays.
  6. Most churches have a moment for giving offerings on Sundays. If you as an individual or as a house church wants to make an offering for the Very Lutheran Project ministry, these can be collected and sent to the P.O. Box or donated through online giving: both are found on the Support page on the website. But remember – this is entirely optional, though deeply appreciated.

EVERY DAY LIFE:

We here at the VLP understand that the Christian life does not stop after Sunday morning or Wednesday night. Nor does the Christian life as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in striving for sanctification and greater knowledge. To help with this, there is an Audio tab on the VLP site with various playlists. Feel free to pick one out and listen while driving, gaming, doing dishes, whenever! The hope is to expand everyone's horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the Word, the Faith, and how we got here today. In addition to this, there are many opportunities to interact with yours truly, the VLP director. Feel free to email me at any time, especially if you're interested in the weekly Wednesday night streaming we have started up!

God be with you,

-VLP Director.
